7 KEY PREPS FOR HOLIDAY BAKING
Are you ready to dive into the magic of holiday baking?
The holiday countdown has officially begun, and soon, kitchens everywhere will be filled with the warm, comforting aromas of cookies, cakes, and other seasonal delights.
Whether you’re whipping up old family favourites or experimenting with something new, the key to joyful (and stress-free) baking is preparation. Let’s get your kitchen ready for baking success with these 7 simple steps!
1. Clear the Decks
Start by making space for all your holiday baking essentials. Declutter your counters and organize your pantry, fridge, and make sure you have room in your freezer for chilling dough and storing baked treats. A tidy, functional kitchen is the foundation of baking success!
2. Toss & Refresh
Take inventory of your ingredients. If you can’t remember the last time you used that jar of cinnamon, or that special flavouring, it’s time to replace them. Spices lose their potency, and baking soda or powder that’s lost its oomph can ruin a recipe. Fresh ingredients are a must for fabulous holiday treats.
3. Plan Your Recipes
Make a list of all the goodies you want to bake. Think family favourites, nostalgic recipes, and maybe a few new creations to try! Need inspiration? My Holiday Cookies Ebook is packed with delicious make-ahead recipes that will simplify your baking and make every bite special.
4. Check Your Tools
Inspect your baking tools and equipment. Are your mixers, measuring cups, cookie cutters, and decorating supplies in good working order? Make sure you have everything you need. A well-equipped kitchen means no last-minute shopping trips mid-bake!
5. Create a Baking Schedule
Map out your holiday baking sessions on your calendar. Consider breaking up the workload: make dough one day, bake another, and decorate later. If you’re baking with kids, allow extra time for their enthusiastic (and messy!) contributions.
6. Gather Packaging & Supplies
If you’re planning to gift your treats or mail care packages, now’s the time to stock up on bags, tins, gift boxes, ribbons, tags, and shipping supplies. Having everything ready ahead of time will save you a ton of stress later.
7. Make It Merry
Don’t forget to decorate your kitchen with some holiday cheer! Hang a wreath, string up twinkly lights, or set out festive dish towels. When it’s time to bake, crank up your favourite holiday tunes (check out my Holiday Kitchen Playlist on Spotify) and put on your most cheerful apron. Let the joy of the season fill your kitchen!
